my creativity is fed by the land where i live in SW Wales , by music , by poetry and the joy of language , by experiencing other artists' work of all kinds, by my various daily practices of meditation and movement, and of course by good food
in recent years i have made quite a lot of paintings , occasional unique up-cycled garments, and worked a lot in sketchbooks. Thoughts for a new piece of work in any medium may pop in at the most unexpected times .. when i am travelling somewhere , doing the washing up , in a conversation about something else , on a walk , in meditation ... over time i have learned to pay attention , and record them to be developed later.
About 4 years ago an increasing number of my paintings included colourful lettering, which led on to writing poetry , and this writing has now superseded painting, at least for now... so please continue to my separate poetry page

a 1 year painting 2018 - 2019
i finished this large painting in early 2019 , it is in acrylic paints and inks on unstretched canvas , hanging freely on a pole .
i took on a 1 year period of time as part of my spiritual practice , using this painting to bear witness and see what would grow over that period .
the 1st thing on the canvas was a prayer , and then, prompted by life and my spirit helpers , i added layer after layer over the next months .
at times it stopped completely while other aspects of life came first , and then came clearly into focus for the last weeks of the planned year.
the text is the last line of a poem i was given on a vision walk, the entire poem is actually part of the background texture of the painting .
this poem is also in my first poetry collection - and this line became its title too

the final images came from the work i do with shamanic healing and support circles, an important element in my life to which i am very grateful .
i am still learning from sitting with it
