TAPESTRIES
when a fellow artist came to visit in autumn 2019 , she gifted me a little tapestry frame, with which i could create approx 4 inch squares . It reignited my delight in weaving which had been dormant for some years .
I started weaving for people close to me, and the process is still evolving 40 tapestries later . Each one is made for a specific person, with the intention of imbuing them with love & blessings and then its a joy to send them out - usually, though not always, as a surprise. The whole process is like a meditation, from the initial choosing of a palette of yummy colours through the endless possible variations of patterns and designs.
The process acquired a new meaning in lockdown too , to be able to send someone something tactile in these times when we meet and touch so much less often, gives me much pleasure .
The yarns are mostly cotton , organic if i can source them , and i have also used bamboo , various found threads, even a delightful ball of bobbly chunky rainbow fibre from recycled banana silk ! The latter thanks to our wonderful local fair trade shop - ( * please see the links page *)
here are photos of a selection of them , with the permission of each recipient
they are obviously all the same size , whatever the camera says :-
